Workchute uses location in three different ways: a private address saved to a party or job, a temporary origin for browsing nearby work, and a Head office origin for marketplace subscriptions. Choosing one does not silently change the others.
Enter an address
On onboarding, job, and Settings pages, use the single visible address field. Start typing and optionally choose a matching suggestion. If you submit typed text, Workchute attempts to resolve it; a suggestion click is not required. An ambiguous or unresolved address stays in the form for correction. A complete postal or ZIP value accepted by the field can also be stored as a coarse address without a street. Every active party member may read addresses they are entitled to see. Generic saved-address, Head office, and subscription-origin changes are owner-only; a Manage jobs user can create a job-scoped saved property only inside an authorized job transaction.
For onboarding or a saved profile location in Settings, you can choose a city with its province or state and country, such as Huntsville, ON, Canada. You can also select a named community within a municipality, such as Caledonia, Haldimand, ON, Canada. This keeps your exact property private. Workchute verifies the city without requiring a street or postal code, including when JavaScript is unavailable. A city alone cannot be used as a job's service location; jobs still need a complete address or a complete supported postal or ZIP value.
An exact address must resolve to complete location components. If Workchute shows more than one match, select the intended suggestion rather than submitting the ambiguous text again. Choose the property type separately when the form asks for it.
A saved address can move through processing states before it is ready for every distance-based feature. A coarse postal address may be valid for display while still being unsuitable as a radius origin. The current Settings, My Profile, job, or Lead settings page is the authority for whether the address is ready, pending, or blocked.
Filter marketplace work by location
In a job filter rail:
Enter a city, postal or ZIP code, or address and select a suggestion when offered, or choose Use current location.
Set the radius within the range shown by the control.
Select Apply. Choosing a location alone does not update the results.
The current-location button appears only when the browser can provide location in a supported secure context. Your browser may ask permission. Denying the request, a timeout, or an unavailable reading leaves the filter unchanged; type a city or postal value instead.
Workchute converts a current-location reading into a temporary reference tied to the requester. Exact coordinates are not placed in marketplace URLs. A copied filtered URL does not transfer that private origin to another browser; the recipient can be asked to choose and apply a location of their own.
If an entered location cannot be resolved, or a temporary reference expires, Workchute blocks the location-filtered results instead of silently broadening the search. Choose the location again and select Apply. Use Clear to remove the saved filters and return to that surface's defaults.
Configure a Head office and subscriptions
A marketplace subscription uses the party's current Head office, not the browser's current-location reading. Owner onboarding can set up or skip subscriptions when a Head office is available. For ongoing changes, the owner can apply a saved Head office or add/edit its location directly in Leads → Lead settings. Available categories and the live maximum radius are the ones shown in the current application. The radius always starts at 1 km; Workchute policy can set the current ceiling anywhere through the platform's 500 km safety limit.
Head office can be your verified city rather than an exact property. Once its location is ready, subscription distances are measured from the approximate city center. Workchute does not choose a downtown property or invent a postal code for you. You can replace the city with a more precise address later.
Choose a Default radius in kilometres and select service categories. With JavaScript, each committed change saves asynchronously and shows its own saving, saved or error/retry status. A newly added category starts with the saved default and uses Head office as its private origin.
Saved subscriptions have category tags and individual radius rows. Press a tag's × button to remove it. Change a category's radius to set an override, or use Use default to clear it. Changing the shared default preserves category overrides. Without JavaScript, explicit Add subscription, Save default and Save radius forms remain available. A rejected number remains beside its row's error, and there is no aggregate save action. Changing Head office preserves the radii and checks the new location. If a policy change makes an entered radius invalid, use the range shown by the page.
Subscriptions can wait for location processing, become active, or be blocked when the selected origin cannot support distance matching. If blocked, correct or replace the Head office with an address that the page can verify. Clearing Head office pauses matching while retaining the saved subscription choices.
What other people can see
Workchute keeps saved street lines and normalized coordinates out of public marketplace and profile projections. Public job cards and map links use a city-first coarse area, followed by region and postal code when available. If city information is unavailable, the label says so rather than guessing from a private street address. A public profile map uses an independently resolved city or postal area. It never reuses or rounds private Head office coordinates, or publishes the private street address. Pending or unsupported areas stay unavailable until a safe public projection exists.
The exact service address remains party-private until an eligible customer-side user with Manage jobs explicitly shares it in the related engaged chat. Chat access by itself cannot disclose that address.
Using Use current location changes only the active job filter. It does not save a party address, set Head office, change a job's service address, or reveal the exact reading on a public job card.
